There are many foods people make repeatedly, whether because they’re effortless to make or because they’re mouth-wateringly delicious! Recently, men and women met in an online discussion to reveal all the dishes they find themselves making multiple times per week. Are any of your favorites on this list?
1. Meatloaf
In my mind, one dish stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to the one I can’t stop cooking: meatloaf. Not just any meatloaf, mind you; all-beef meatloaf is for amateurs. Real meat lovers blend beef, pork, and veal to create the perfect dish! Not only does meatloaf taste incredible, but there are always leftovers, which is always welcomed!
2. Roasted Smashed Potatoes
Somewhere between mashed potatoes and baked potatoes lies one incredible dish: smashed potatoes. They’re easy to make; all it takes is some sliced potatoes and plenty of seasoning before shoving them into the oven for 30 minutes! “I have to stop myself from eating half the pan before they make it to the plates whenever I make roasted smashed potatoes,” confesses one man.
3. Homemade Chex Mix
People can’t get enough of making homemade Chex mix! The opportunity to create the mix based on your own favorite snacks is too good to pass up. “A few years back, I made Chex mix to give as holiday gifts,” recalls one man. “One person made the poor decision to open it while I was still there. I ate at least 75% of the container I gave them.”
4. BLT Sandwiches
For sandwich lovers, nothing is better than a well-made BLT on a hot summer day! From the sizzling bacon to the crisp lettuce to the juicy tomatoes (with plenty of mayo), it’s a crowd-pleasure at any barbeque or picnic. I can attest to the greatness of the BLT sandwich; I made one yesterday and am debating returning to the kitchen today for round two!
5. Macaroni and Cheese
Homemade macaroni and cheese is the pinnacle of home-cooked meals for millions of people. There’s nothing special about it; it’s just pasta and cheese. It has no right to be that tasty! “The best part of mac and cheese is that it doesn’t have to be special or fancy,” explains one woman. “It’s the only food I never feel full from.”
6. Slow-Cooked Pork
I recently moved to North Carolina, and one of the things I did after arriving was fire up my Crock-Pot and throw in seven pounds of Boston pork! Nine hours later, I was rewarded with the most tender and juicy pulled pork I’ve ever eaten. Based on that rewarding experience alone, slow-cooked pork is a staple in my cooking rotation. I make it at least twice a month!
7. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
I’m one of the millions who make too many grilled cheese sandwiches in a given week, but only because I know the secret to the best version of this classic. The key is to use mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside of the sandwich! Using a knife, spread a thin layer on the outside of both slices of bread. Don’t use butter in the pan. This method ensures you get a shockingly even, golden-brown look to your grilled cheese sandwich every time.
8. Breakfast Casserole
A hearty breakfast is a hallmark of the beginning of a memorable day, and many men and women reveal breakfast casseroles are part of their daily lives. “This breakfast casserole my mom used to make with sage sausage, cheddar cheese, eggs, green onions, and sourdough was to die for,” reports one woman. “I’m drooling just thinking of these.” You and me both!
9. Grilled Shrimp
I don’t know what it is about shrimp, but it’s the only food I’ve ever not gotten full of eating. Along with countless other shrimp lovers, I could eat 100 grilled shrimp and still search for more. When you eat shrimp as you would popcorn, you know you have a borderline unhealthy obsession with them! It doesn’t matter; please give me grilled (or cocktail) shrimp for every meal.
10. Spaghetti
Classic dishes are classics for a reason: They’re too delicious to say no to! Many amateur chefs confess they can’t keep spaghetti in their cupboards anymore for fear of eating it all the time. “I could literally eat spaghetti every day,” admits one man. “I have to force myself to stop and not keep the ingredients in the house.”
11. Scrambled Eggs
Only a few special people can create the perfect scrambled egg dish. Luckily, I am one of those people. My secret is using more butter in the frying pan than any average human would ever use. The result is the best-tasting scrambled eggs my girlfriend has ever tasted. Feel free to try it yourself!
12. Fresh-Baked Cookies
Admit it; you’re surprised it took you this long to find “fresh-baked cookies” on this list! Is there anything better in life? “Give me all the cookies, especially when they’re fresh out of the oven after five minutes, and they’re hot and soft,” explains one man. “I’m down with any flavor, but especially peanut butter.”
