Regarding traveling the world, some countries are more beloved than others. Some destinations lure travelers repeatedly; that’s a sign that a country is doing something right! Recently, men and women met in an online discussion to reveal the countries they can’t help but visit repeatedly. After reading, ask yourself: How many nations on this list have you explored?
1. Costa Rica
Interestingly, Costa Rica is the runaway leader for the place that most travelers confess they would visit repeatedly. “The people are lovely, the land is so gorgeous, and the scenery varies greatly depending on which area of the country you’re in,” reveals one woman. “The weather is fantastic and it has some of the best scuba diving locations I’ve ever seen. I’ve been several times and would go back in a heartbeat. Pura Vida!” This woman’s excitement is infectious; Costa Rica sounds like the best country in the world!
2. Italy
Is it really surprising that Italy is on this list? After all, what’s not to love about it? There is a calming vibe about Italy that makes any visit memorable. Hearing Italian spoken everywhere transports you into a different world; even the airports seem magical! Italy has enough history and activities to last a lifetime, from the wine to the historic landmarks to the beaches (and everything in between). The fact that so many areas in the country are different from each other is also a significant bonus!
3. China
According to countless people, China is an underrated country to visit. From its residents’ slow, simple way of life to its friendly culture and delicious food, visiting China is an ideal way to experience a new country without breaking the bank! “China’s my choice,” reveals one woman. “It’s a large country with gorgeous landscapes, big cities, amazing skylines, great food, and engaging activities. It won’t be mentioned much because many tourists are afraid to venture outside the big cities like Shanghai. But I promise you, visiting China is a trip worth taking!”
4. Croatia
For many American travelers, Croatia feels the most like “home.” You can drop an average American into any large city in Croatia, and they wouldn’t feel out of place. As a result, countless travelers confess that Croatia’s welcoming vibe and familiar culture make it an easy “must-visit” country, even if they’ve visited there many times before! I recently booked a six-week stay in the coastal town of Split for spring 2024 because of all the beautiful memories I made in late 2022 when I visited!
5. Vietnam
Besides the history and beautiful landscapes, there’s one reason people visit Vietnam: The local cuisine! Judging by countless rave reviews about authentic Vietnamese food, it’s unsurprising that Vietnam is so popular among tourists. “We’ve been to Vietnam a ton, and I would happily go every summer if allowed,” confesses one experienced traveler. “The food is fantastic, from a street vendor or market stall to a 5-star hotel restaurant. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal there. The mountains are amazing; the cities are charming, packed, and busy.”
6. Portugal
Aside from the country’s heritage and exceedingly welcoming population to foreign travelers, Portugal has one significant advantage over other European countries that tends to lure people to visit: It’s the closest country in continental Europe to the east coast of the United States! That’s enough reason for savvy American travelers to visit; when a round-trip flight from New York to Lisbon is only $600 on average, it feels stupid not to travel to Portugal repeatedly!
7. Mexico
Many people consider Mexico a hidden gem because the country offers so much for visitors to explore while still flying under the radar for most travelers! Do you want a luxury resort vacation? Mexico can give it to you. Do you want to explore jungles, deserts, and ancient ruins? Mexico can provide that for you, too. Do you want to taste arguably the best food you’ll ever have in your life? Good news: Literally any city in Mexico can make that happen!
8. Greece
From seeing jaw-dropping landmarks to experiencing idyllic coastal villages, it’s rare for anybody to visit Greece without making immediate plans to travel there again as soon as possible! “I went to Greece for the first time last year, and now my wife is like, ‘We should go to Greece!’ every time we talk about vacation,” explains one man. “Plus, I could go there 20 times and still have something new to do.” I’ve never visited Greece, but it’s on my bucket list!
9. Japan
There’s no place quite like Japan. It’s on my bucket list for one reason: I want to experience genuine culture shock. By all accounts, visiting a city like Tokyo is like stepping foot into the future. I want to be uncomfortable in the best way, and anyone who has visited Japan always plans to travel there again immediately; it’s that much fun and memorable! It also helps that authentic Japanese cuisine is to die for; I’m starting to think most world travelers are just food lovers!
10. Norway
Sometimes, the simplicity of everyday life and the general logistics of a country are reasons enough to visit repeatedly! Norway fits the bill in that regard, as one person explains. “Norway is great because credit cards are accepted everywhere, there’s a minimal tipping culture, and most people speak English,” reports one woman. “It has stunning nature and delicious local cuisine. I cannot get enough, and plan on driving a camper van along the fjords next time I visit.”
