Record inflation severely impacted the food supply chain, fuel costs, and pricing for virtually all our everyday necessities.

But while food costs remain high overall, prices for some food have come down. Stacker used monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics data to find the cheapest groceries and found  10 grocery items that experienced the largest price decreases from August to September, using year-over-year price changes as a tie-breaker. With high inflation, consumers need to live more stingily.

Prices for fresh fruits decreased by 0.6% in August and saw steady decreases in previous months. Uncooked beef (except for veal) also saw a slight decline in pricing partly due to a shift in consumer demand and the fact that some cattle ranchers are slaughtering their livestock early. This is due to recent droughts in areas such as Texas that affect where cattle graze.

Meanwhile, dairy products such as milk and eggs also saw reduced prices; with cheese readily available, there was reduced demand for the product.

Although it is hard to fight inflation, this list can help those with a tight budget.
